BD140 TRANSISTOR
BD140 Transistor is a three layer NPN or PNP device within the working range, the collector current IC is a function of the base current IB, a change in the base current giving a corresponding amplified change in the collector current for a given collector emitter voltage VCE.
It comes in a TO-126 case which has a screw hole enabling easier mounting to heatsinks, increasing the power dissipation capability.
Between 10 and 100mA, the gain curve is at its flattest, dropping off rapidly after 500mA. This means that to switch high collector currents, high base currents are needed.
The saturation voltage is around 50mV, leading to low power dissipation and higher efficiency for switching loads.
